Another remarkable thing about the small island of Guimaras is the collective effort of its people to safeguard the natural resources.

The province has been home to various sanctuaries, such as marine turtles, several species of crustaceans, aquatic plants, and mangroves. There are also protected areas for different species of birds, bats, and mammals that inhabit the wetlands and mountains.

Biologist, environmentalists, and other life science experts have also been conducting their research studies in the province. Results of their investigations have been valuable tools to improve the ecological conditions.

But the most noteworthy part are the people of Guimaras, who have been very participative in the quest to preserve nature. They act as environmental promoters and sentinels, who protect the welfare of the flora and fauna that are thriving in the province.

Back in 2006, Guimarasnon unite to clean up the oil spill mess at the shores of Nueva Valencia. And after almost seven years, they have become vigilant in protecting the environment.

As long as they continue to share their efforts in this endeavor, the province will be one of the last places that we can experience the true beauty of nature.
