It’s treasure hunting time this summer!
The sun season in the spectacular island of Panay is not only about the sizzling heat and the busy beaches. There are a lot of treasures waiting to be uncovered and rediscovered.
We are in search for these treasures – the most extraordinary, the most delicious,
or the most bizarre experience you had in this wonderful island of Panay – caught on film! Yes, if you took a precious shot of anything about Panay then share it with us and you might win exciting treats this summer season.
WHO CAN JOIN?
This contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers and hobbyists, ages 18 years old and above, and who are residents of the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo. Participants who are below 18 years old should secure a written consent from a parent or guardian.
CONTEST RULES AND MECHANICS:
· A participant must submit a photo that showcases the best hidden treasures of Panay (People, Food, Culture, Traditions, Tourist Destination, etc.). A participant can send up to three (3) entries but can only win once.
· This is an individual work. An entry shared by two persons or a group is not allowed.
· The entry should be emailed to islandpanay@yahoo.com with the subject line “It’s My Panay.” The participant should provide the following information together with his/her entry:

· All entries should be original. The photo must have been taken between January 1, 2010 and March 23, 2011. It should not have won in any photo contest or published in any form of print and online media.
· The photo entry must be digitally taken in JPEG format with a size of 8 inches x 10 inches. The image quality should be set in the highest possible resolution of the digital camera.
· Entries that are scanned from a printed copy, or are digitally retouched using a photo software application are not allowed. However, a participant can use the creative effects of the camera, such as filtration and multiple exposures. Minor cropping, resizing, dodging, and adjusting the density, brightness and contrasts can be tolerated.
· Watermarks and any other markings on the photo entry, such as the name of the photographer or the time and date the photo was taken, are not allowed.
· The participant agrees that his/her submitted entry will become the property of Panay Mud Pie (http://pmp500.blogspot.com) and the Provincial Government of Iloilo. Both parties can use the photo for marketing, exhibition, and promotional purposes in all of its future publications, whether on print, film, or online media without any financial compensation to the owner. However, the owner will be duly acknowledged for his work. Failure to credit the owner due to any error or omission will not be hold against Panay Mud Pie and the Provincial Government of Iloilo.
· Deadline of submission of entries will be on March 23, 2011 at 3:00 pm.
· The organizers reserve the rights to disqualify an entry that does not meet the criteria.
· The decision of the jury is final and irrevocable. Any protest or complaint made after the announcement of finalists and winners will not be entertained by the organizers.
JUDGING:
· All entries will be uploaded on the official Facebook page of Panay Mud Pie on March 24, 2011 for public voting (“Liking”).
· The top twenty (20) entries will be determined by the highest number of “LIKES.” A participant is allowed to campaign for his or her photo in the duration of the voting period. Tagging the photo to his or her friends is permitted. The Voting/Liking will end at midnight of April 5, 2011.
· The final twenty entries will enter the second round of the competition and the TOP 3 will be determined according to the following criteria:
Creativity and originality – 30%
Photographic quality – 30%
Relevance to the theme – 40%
· The prizes are as follows:
FIRST PLACE – Php 3,000 and gift certificates from sponsors
SECOND PLACE – Php 2,000 and gift certificates from sponsors
THIRD PLACE – Php 1000 and gift certificates from sponsors
A description of not more than 100 words: Despite the ongoing festivites along the shore of Villa Beach, many locals chose to focus on other forms of entertainment. Here a woman carries her young child while another one clings to her. For this mother, no other thing could have competed for her attention save for the smiles of her children.
The Old Pier of Iloilo is located along Muelle Loney. This port has been shipping internationally since the 1800's. It is said to be one of the main hubs for trade and commerce in Western Visayas. However, it is now full of old and rusty boats that are non-functioning since the new port is now situated on a different side of Iloilo City (fronting Guimaras Island).

A description of not more than 100 words: This picture was taken during the beach Utimate Frisbee tournament which was organized as part of the the activities of the Paraw Regatta festival. Although Ultimate frisbee is a relatively new sport it captivates players and spectators from all walks of life because of its appealing intensity - a factor that is ultimately captured by this picture.

Built around the 1700's, the Jaro Belfry stands in front of the Jaro Cathedral. It is not only a fixture of the church, but is also said to be a military watchtower during the earlier years. It is one of the historical landmarks in Iloilo was destroyed during an earthquake in Panay decades ago. It was said to be completely reconstructed during the 1980's.

Pan-ay, originally called Bamban, was established in 1572. The first church, constructed in 1774 by Fr. Miguel Murguia, was heavily damaged by a typhoon in 1875. The present church was constructed in 1884 under the direction of Fr. Jose Beloso who commission Don Juan Reina to cast a bell for the church from seventy sacks of coins donated by the townspeople. This bell, the biggest in the Philippines measures seven feet in diameter, five feet in height, and weights 10, 400 kg. By virtue of NHI Board Resolution No. 3, S 1997, this church is declared a National Historical Landmark.
