Every book has a power

With video games and online networking sites becoming everyone’s hobbies nowadays, books are getting shelved for good. Gone are the days when scholarly times consumed the day and chit-chats were all about lines from a best-seller.

There are heaps of things around distracting reading pleasures and people have long forgotten books. Worst, they would often associate these to as school accessories or "companions of the geeks". In addition, majority of today’s generation would also prefer bar-hopping and shopping as their past time activities aside from their online agendas.

But books are more than pages on a hard cover. They are powerful instruments of change; in fact they have inspired one generation to another. They contain in them lines that can be used for day-to-day living and even to make happen the unfeasible.

Take the case of Joan, a 21-year old engineering senior, on how a simple book has changed her decision to save her baby from an attempted abortion. After one day spent for reading, she found strength from her frustrations and embraced the gift of motherhood at the age of eighteen. Now she lives a happy life with her three-year old girl, Janice.

It might be impossible at present, but someday people will once again recognize the power of books. For books hold knowledge and insights that can propel everyday living, and lead people’s lives to a better change.
