Now, the town of Miag-ao will not only be known for the Miag-ao Church, a UNESCO heritage site, but also for a new world record that it has successfully set last May 24, 2013 as the most number of lanterns released simultaneously on air within ten minutes.

A total of 15, 185 lanterns lit the night sky, enough to break the world record previously held by Romania. This is another feat for the Philippines, which is known to have set awesome world records within the past ten years.

As part of the inaugural Light of Peace event in the Philippines, the lighting of lanterns is a symbolic act to promote world peace as a consequence of inner peace.

Ilonggos from all walks of life graced the event, not only to become a part of the new world record, but also to become advocates of inner peace.
