On the Mid-term Election

By Pepin
The midterm election has finally come to an end. Winners rejoice and losers whine. New set of leaders will be installed in office and the Philippines will again be in transition as it will adjust to changes in its political system.

In general, the election has been peaceful. It was evident that there was a significant decrease in election-related violence. But let us not be too overwhelmed as we really need to aim to “zero” this in the future.

In addition, some political dynasties were broken, and newcomers in politics will take center stage. Are we expecting positive changes then? Let’s see.

The disheartening part is the Vote Buying issue, as it is still out of control. People were persuaded by money, which is unprincipled since the right to suffrage should be a free choice. This should stop at once, and the best way to do it is to educate the people on how to vote… wisely.

It is true that the future of our country is in the hands of the people we have elected, but remember that we also have the responsibility to steer our nation towards progress. Let’s just hope that our leaders will make decisions that would be for the good of all.
