With baffling contortions, sweat-glazed bodies, and blazing balls of flame, fire dancers have been major attractions at Boracay Beach this summer.

Miag-ao, Iloilo sets World Record

Now, the town of Miag-ao will not only be known for the Miag-ao Church, a UNESCO heritage site, but also for a new world record that it has successfully set last May 24, 2013 as the most number of lanterns released simultaneously on air within ten minutes.

A total of 15, 185 lanterns lit the night sky, enough to break the world record previously held by Romania. This is another feat for the Philippines, which is known to have set awesome world records within the past ten years.

As part of the inaugural Light of Peace event in the Philippines, the lighting of lanterns is a symbolic act to promote world peace as a consequence of inner peace.

Ilonggos from all walks of life graced the event, not only to become a part of the new world record, but also to become advocates of inner peace.

On the Mid-term Election

By Pepin
The midterm election has finally come to an end. Winners rejoice and losers whine. New set of leaders will be installed in office and the Philippines will again be in transition as it will adjust to changes in its political system.

In general, the election has been peaceful. It was evident that there was a significant decrease in election-related violence. But let us not be too overwhelmed as we really need to aim to “zero” this in the future.

In addition, some political dynasties were broken, and newcomers in politics will take center stage. Are we expecting positive changes then? Let’s see.

The disheartening part is the Vote Buying issue, as it is still out of control. People were persuaded by money, which is unprincipled since the right to suffrage should be a free choice. This should stop at once, and the best way to do it is to educate the people on how to vote… wisely.

It is true that the future of our country is in the hands of the people we have elected, but remember that we also have the responsibility to steer our nation towards progress. Let’s just hope that our leaders will make decisions that would be for the good of all.

Health Update:

Milky Way

By Pepin

All you can see is white liquid. But there are “micro goodness” that are hidden on your glass of milk. And the good thing is these tiny stuffs are vital to your health.

CALCIUM – milk is highly associated with this nutrient. Calcium plays an important role in muscle function and to maintain strong bones and teeth.

PROTEIN – muscle build-up will not be possible without this nutrient. That is why our moms would often tell us, “Drink your milk or else you won’t grow”.

VITAMIN A – for good eyesight and a healthy flawless skin, this essential vitamin is best to achieve them.

PHOSPHORUS – this nutrient is needed to maintain a normal blood function, as well as for enhancing the processes that occurs in the nervous and immune systems.

MAGNESIUM - cell function and energy production needs magnesium. So don’t miss this nutrient.

Next time you drink a glass of milk, think about how it can provide you with almost a complete nutrition you need for the day.
