Visita Inglesia in Iloilo

by Pepin

Visita Inglesia is a common tradition of the Catholics in the Philippines during the season of lent. It is a practice wherein people go to different churches to pray the station of the cross on Good Friday.

Many would usually tag it as "church-hopping", but this tradition is not a "come and go" activity, but a spiritual endeavor to experience the Passion of Christ.

Iloilo Province  is home to some of the world's oldest, but well-preserve churches. Though a lot of people get to see these magnificent architectures during Visita Inglesia, the solemn atmosphere inside these infrastructures are maintained and encouraged during lent so that the purpose of the visit will not deviate from the real meaning of the season.
