Iloilo City will host the First Philippine International River Summit from May 30 to June 1, 2012. The three-day event, which is expected to be attended by more than 500 guests, will focus on the management and rehabilitation programs that the local government and several agencies are planning to implement to protect the river systems of the country.

The summit will also be discussing the latest development of the Iloilo River, which is considered as one of the most proactive river programs that a local government unit and partnering agencies have implemented.

Director Vicente Tuddao, Jr. of the DENR-River Basin Control Officer lauded Iloilo City and its government for taking the lead to sustain and maintain the river system. He hopes that it will be an example to other cities and municipalities as well.

Moreover, there will be an exhibit to be held at Eon Centennial Convention Center, which will highlight some projects that were already done to improve some of the river system of Western Visayas.

Major rivers in region that will be showcased in the said exhibit include the Panakuyan River in Ibajay, Aklan, Bugang River in Pandan, Antique, and Tigum-Aganan River in Iloilo.
